Roldy Cueto Cabrera: Precision, Passion and Wireless Control

For Roldy Cueto Cabrera, lighting isn’t just a job—it’s a calling shaped by resilience, adaptability, and a passion for creating beautiful, functional spaces.

Born and raised in Havana, Cuba, Roldy was once a member of the national cycling team, an experience that instilled in him the discipline and determination he brings to every project.

“Obstacles never stop me,” he says. “They might slow me down, but they only make me stronger.”

After earning a degree in Electronic Engineering at the University of Havana, Roldy was introduced to the world of light through Paolo Targetti and the wider Targetti family—an experience that sparked a lifelong love for lighting design and control.

Now based in Switzerland, Roldy runs RNHC Services, where he specializes in commissioning Casambi and Adquio systems for residential, commercial, and heritage projects.

“Casambi and Adquio together offer complete freedom,” he explains. “No limits, just flexibility. I’m here to help you bring your vision to life with all my passion and knowledge.”

How to Make a Project Work

For Roldy, the key to a successful lighting control installation is simple:
“You need the right amount of light at the right moment. That’s how you truly benefit from the system.”

He’s drawn to Casambi’s flexibility and intuitive interface, which makes even the most complex challenges manageable. “Signal loss has never stopped me from finishing a project,” he adds. “Casambi just works—it’s a system without barriers.”

That said, some projects are more complex than others. Sensor integration and conditional logic can require creative thinking. “But there’s always a way,” Roldy says. “We find it.”

Project Highlights: History, Holidays, and High Expectations

One of Roldy’s proudest projects is the Abbaye de Saint-Maurice—a historic site with thick stone walls and demanding lighting needs.

The system combined sensors, timers, and scene controls—all enabled by the flexibility of Casambi and a close collaboration with partner ADQUIO.

Another standout: the Christmas decorations in Lausanne. The lighting spanned three separate streets and had to operate seamlessly despite frequent power cuts.

Using LigaAir antennas, timer backups, and precise scene programming, Roldy delivered a solution that impressed the city and highlighted the power of expert commissioning.

A System Built on Trust and Tools

To bring ideas to life, Roldy relies on the Casambi Demo Cube, a vital tool that helps him prototype scenes, troubleshoot setups, and demonstrate possibilities on-site. It’s this combination of technical knowledge, creative problem-solving, and hands-on tools that defines his approach.

And it’s all driven by passion.

“I wear a Casambi t-shirt every day. That says everything about how proud I am to be part of this world.”

The Swiss Market: Opportunities and Challenges

In Switzerland, demand for wireless and smart lighting is growing fast. But Roldy sees challenges too—especially around how the role of the commissioning engineer is perceived and valued.

“Our work needs to be protected,” he explains. “When clients bypass us to buy products themselves, it weakens the value of commissioning and risks Casambi’s reputation. But when we’re trusted and involved, everyone benefits.”

He also hopes that architects and lighting designers will deepen their understanding of what commissioning really involves.

“They’re essential collaborators—but they still need to see the importance of our technical expertise.”

Beyond Lighting: A Photographer at Heart

When he’s not designing or commissioning lighting systems, Roldy explores his other creative passion: photography.

He’s an official photographer for the Swiss Swimming Federation, and his work can be found at roldy.com.
