Optometry Michalscy

The owner of Optometry Michalscy, an optical salon in Bydgoszcz, Poland, was facing several challenges with the existing lighting system. The primary issues included insufficient light intensity, inaccurate color representation, and a lack of flexibility in lighting controls. The inadequate lighting made it difficult for customers to accurately evaluate their appearance with selected glasses and hindered the proper presentation of products. The salon required a lighting system that not only enhanced visual clarity and color accuracy but also provided the flexibility to adjust the lighting according to different conditions and situations.

To address these challenges, Light Works implemented a comprehensive lighting upgrade based on a design concept by Małgorzata Kopecka from HSK Ledy. The solution involved the installation of tunable white downlight fixtures, featuring high-quality Philips diodes and D4i drivers. These fixtures offer adjustable intensity and color temperature to meet the salon’s specific needs.

They also integrated Casambi controls, allowing for precise, intuitive control of the lighting system via a dedicated wireless switch. This setup enables the client to customize lighting scenes, adjust brightness, and change color settings, enhancing the overall flexibility and usability of the space.

Additionally, LightWorks teamed up with Kumux, a Spanish company that specializes in lighting designed to support people’s natural body rhythms, known as Human-Centric Lighting (HCL). Their system adjusts the store’s lighting throughout the day to imitate the natural changes in sunlight. This means the light in the salon feels more like real daylight, which not only makes the space more comfortable to be in but also helps improve sleep, focus, and overall well-being for both employees and customers alike.

The benefits

“This upgrade has doubled the light intensity in the salon. With a CRI improvement from 80 to over 95, the new lighting system provides near-perfect color rendering, allowing customers to see frames as they would appear in natural light, leading, I’m sure, to more confident purchasing decisions. The uniform lighting now eliminates shadows and glare, creating a more pleasant and inviting atmosphere. Meanwhile, the HCL system supports the natural circadian rhythm, promoting better sleep, increased concentration, and reduced fatigue for employees within the space” says Mateusz Janowski, Light Works Founder, adding:

“The Casambi control system allows for personalized lighting scenes that can be adjusted throughout the day or customized for specific events, enhancing the shopping experience while providing flexibility and future-proofing the system, which will undoubtedly contribute to the salon’s long-term success.”
