River Towers
Overlooking the Congo River, the River Towers rise prominently on the skyline of Kinshasa. This pair of twin towers, with their curved lines and enveloping design, redefines the city’s night-time silhouette with lighting that traces their outline. The area’s high humidity levels played a key role in the selection of Lluria’s linear lighting systems.
Redrawing architecture
The lighting project accentuates the towers’ distinctive form with continuous lines of light running along each floor. This luminous stroke outlines the volume from its base to the upper glass-clad levels. The design draws attention to the towers’ morphology, offering a clear visual reference from afar while integrating both buildings into the riverside and urban landscape.
Durable and precise technology
To withstand the region’s extreme humidity, a high-performance, long-lasting solution was selected: 12 W/m 5700 K Digital COUGAR IP68 LED strips. With 7 LEDs per pixel, the system runs on the SPI protocol and is fully managed via CASAMBI wireless technology, simplifying both installation and maintenance. The robustness of the components ensures consistent quality and uniformity in the lighting effect across the entire façade.
“The control system used in this project consists of SPI controllers that operate remotely in sync, and a Casambi DMX gateway to activate the different scenes. Since Casambi is the interface used to trigger the scenes, we added a Casambi Gateway to enable remote control from anywhere.” says David Berenguer, 4C Certified Commissioning Partner from Lluria.
Depth and rhythm on the façade
From street level to aerial view, the lighting transforms the towers into monumental sculptures of light. The perimeter lines reinforce the architecture’s sense of dynamism, while reflections on the glazed surfaces create a sense of depth and continuous vibration. The contrast between the warm interior tones and the cooler exterior ones creates visual tension, further accentuating the towers’ nocturnal silhouette.
Design and climate in harmony
At River Towers, the lighting design establishes a dialogue with both the climate and the landscape. The choice of IP68 technology was crucial to withstand the high levels of relative humidity without compromising the formal integrity of the design. Here, light becomes a defining feature of the building’s identity, bringing an emotional quality to Kinshasa’s urban environment.
