El Patron in Gregory Hills, Sydney, pairs hacienda-inspired interiors with layered lighting for dining, cocktails and late-night entertainment. With Casambi wireless lighting control, the lighting can adapt to the changing atmosphere while highlighting the venue’s distinctive arches, bar finishes and architectural details.
El Patron in Gregory Hills, south-west of Sydney, brings together tapas, cocktails and live entertainment under one roof. The venue moves from a relaxed dining setting into a livelier late-night atmosphere, with lighting that helps set the mood while keeping the space practical for guests and staff.
Working with interior designer Marj Silva, TecLED helped select products to suit the client’s vision for the interior. The hacienda-inspired design, with its arches, curved details and richly patterned finishes, gave the lighting scheme plenty to work with.
Small in-ground lights sit beneath the arches, casting light upwards onto the ceiling. The reflected light brings out the curves of the architecture while keeping direct glare to a minimum. It draws attention to the distinctive ceiling and gives the space a warm, inviting feel.
At the bar, lighting has several jobs to do. LED strips highlight the patterned finish on the bar front, while lighting beneath the steps helps guests move around safely. Flexible LED strips along the bottle shelves illuminate the tequila collection and bring out the sinuous patterns of the tiles behind the bar. Downlights highlight the drinks being served, while brighter task lighting gives staff the visibility they need to prepare cocktails.
Adjustable track lighting provides focused light over individual tables. Suspended tracks allow the luminaires to be repositioned as needed, while leaving space for other services overhead. Spotlights pick out the cacti, adding to the feeling of a Mexican garden. Across the venue, lighting with a colour rendering index above 90 helps food, drinks and interior finishes appear in their natural colours.
With Casambi wireless lighting control, the lighting can be adjusted to suit the different needs of the venue. This flexibility supports the shift from dinner and drinks to a more energetic evening atmosphere, while allowing different areas to be controlled according to how the space is being used.
At El Patron, the lighting is part of what makes the venue work. It highlights the architecture and materials, helps staff behind the bar and gives the space room to change character as the night progresses.
