Designed to blur the line between indoors and outdoors, this private residence uses Casambi wireless lighting control to create a seamless connection between architecture and landscape. Flexible wireless control allows the lighting to evolve alongside the home while keeping everyday operation effortless.

Designed by Nielsen Jenkins with lighting design by Simon Casagrande, this private residence was created with a strong connection between the home and its surrounding landscape. Rather than treating the interior and exterior as separate spaces, the lighting helps them feel like one continuous environment, drawing the eye from inside the home out into the garden and back again.

Landscape lighting plays a leading role in the overall design. As daylight fades, the gardens gradually come to life, giving the home a sense of depth and extending the living spaces beyond the walls. Inside, layered lighting complements the architecture and materials, creating a warm, comfortable atmosphere without competing with the view outside.

The project also presented a number of practical challenges. High ceilings meant many luminaires would be difficult to access once installed, while the landscape design continued to evolve as the home was completed. The lighting control system needed to be flexible enough to adapt without requiring major changes or costly recommissioning.

Casambi wireless control provided that flexibility. New luminaires could be added or existing ones adjusted as the landscape developed, allowing the lighting to evolve alongside the home. Exterior lighting is also programmed to switch on automatically at sunset, ensuring the gardens are always illuminated when they’re needed while keeping operation simple for the homeowners.

With wireless commissioning and intuitive controls, the system is easy to manage long after installation. Lighting scenes can be refined over time without specialised programming, giving homeowners the freedom to adapt the lighting as their needs change.

Lighting quietly connects architecture and landscape, creating a home that feels just as welcoming outside as it does within, from the first light of morning through to the evening.
