Magnolia Park
Magnolia Park underwent a major lighting upgrade with 396 LED luminaires and Casambi wireless control, implemented by Light Works, delivering a whopping 72% in energy savings and PLN 800,000 in projected savings over five years.
Magnolia Park, one of the largest outdoor lighting control projects in Poland and possibly Europe, is set to save over PLN 800,000 in five years following a comprehensive lighting modernization. This project involved the upgrade to LED lighting and the implementation of the Casambi zonal wireless control system, in collaboration with Light Works, Luxon and SELTOM. A total of 396 next-gen LED luminaires were installed across the outdoor car park, park surroundings, and building façade, all controlled by a system that manages four luminaires per controller.
“One of the most important aspects for the client was to select lighting fixtures that fit into the existing infrastructure and surroundings of Magnolia Park, as well as to adjust the color temperature to the existing illumination,” said Marcin Oleszowski Street Investment Manager, Luxon LED.
The client had three fundamental goals for the project: to achieve significant cost savings, to implement a zoned lighting management system, and to enhance the overall quality and aesthetics of the facility. Additionally, they required the luminaires to maintain their existing style, use warm light temperatures, and have the installation adapted to the current infrastructure. The project also faced four key challenges: the absence of any lighting documentation, the need for a thorough inventory and audit, the challenge of matching the color and optics of the luminaires, and the requirement for a phased installation that aligned with the customer’s capacity.
The new lighting concept used three types of LED luminaires tailored to Magnolia Park’s specific needs.
Cordoba LED S luminaires for internal roads, ensuring optimal light distribution and energy efficiency, Cordoba M and L models for larger areas and bypass roads, and Skylight LED luminaires for the façade and parking lot at Castorama – adjustable for focused or broad light distribution. These luminaires were grouped in a Casambi-controlled wireless system, allowing easy management of light intensity through a mobile app, without additional fees for use.
“The Casambi system gave the client complete flexibility in managing the lighting zones, allowing them to easily adjust to the changing needs of the space while achieving substantial energy savings.” Said Mateusz Janowski, Light Works Founder.
Casambi wireless control, implemented here by Light Works, allows the client to easily manage each luminaire via mobile devices. This system enables zoned control, customizable lighting scenes, and energy-saving options, such as dimming areas with less foot traffic or enhancing lighting for specific activities like skating.
The project began with Luxon conducting a thorough inventory and audit of the existing lighting, which confirmed the installation’s good condition and allowed for a 1:1 replacement of old luminaires with new LEDs. The R&D team customized lighting fixtures to meet installation requirements and maintain the desired warm light effect, especially for the building’s façade. The installation was carried out in phases to accommodate ongoing facility reconstruction, minimizing disruption to the shopping center’s operations.
And the key results are very impressive. 72% energy savings per year. <3-year payback period. PLN 819,809 saved over five years.
“We replaced luminaires that were sodium luminaires with a power of about 300 watts per luminaire. The savings were calculated before the investment to check the payback time. It was a savings of 70%.” Tomasz Gorczowski, SELTOM
This modernization highlights the efficiency of the Casambi wireless system and advanced LED technology in delivering significant cost savings, enhanced lighting quality, and a flexible, user-friendly control system.
