As part of Bayside Council’s Her Way initiative, Mascot Memorial Park uses Casambi wireless lighting control to create a safer and more welcoming public space after dark. Intelligent lighting helps improve visibility while supporting a comfortable environment for the local community.
Located in Sydney, Mascot Memorial Park was upgraded as part of Bayside Council’s Her Way initiative, a project focused on creating public spaces where women and girls feel safer and more comfortable after dark. Working alongside Elec Comm Services and Light Project NSW, the lighting upgrade was designed to improve visibility while creating a park that feels welcoming for the wider community in the evening.
Lighting plays an important role in how a public space is experienced at night. Beyond providing visibility, it helps people feel more confident moving through the park, encouraging the space to remain active and inviting after sunset.
The project also presented a unique challenge. Situated close to Sydney Airport, the lighting needed to be carefully controlled to avoid affecting aviation operations, while still delivering the right levels of illumination throughout the park. The outdoor environment also called for durable solutions capable of withstanding demanding site conditions.
Casambi wireless control provided the flexibility needed to bring the lighting scheme together. Using CasDMX modules, together with a Casambi ASD and timer backup, the dynamic façade and landscape lighting can be triggered automatically in sync with the existing photoelectric cell. This ensures the lighting activates at the appropriate time each evening while keeping operation simple and reliable.
The wireless approach also reduced the complexity of the installation, allowing intelligent lighting control to be integrated without extensive additional infrastructure. Once commissioned, lighting scenes could be adjusted easily, giving the council the flexibility to refine the experience over time as operational needs evolve.
Here, lighting does more than illuminate pathways. It helps create a public space where people feel more comfortable spending time after dark, demonstrating how thoughtful lighting control can contribute to both safety and community wellbeing.
