Hidden within a castle-like space in Thonglor, Quilombo blends the spirit of Buenos Aires dining with fire-cooked cuisine, exceptional beef, and Argentinian wines in an intimate and atmospheric setting. The restaurant’s lighting evolves naturally throughout the day, using Casambi wireless controls and subtle three-minute transitions to shift the mood from bright daytime warmth to soft evening intimacy. Designed as part of the overall experience rather than a separate technology layer, the lighting enhances the architecture, supports flexible service needs, and creates a seamless rhythm that defines the restaurant’s atmosphere.
Hidden within a castle-like space in the middle of Thonglor, Quilombo feels like stepping into another time and place. Inspired by the golden age of Buenos Aires dining, the restaurant brings together fire, exceptional beef, and Argentinian wines in an intimate 80-seat setting that feels both expressive and quietly dramatic.
The atmosphere is a big part of that experience. By day, the space feels open and grounded, with natural light moving gently across the original stone surfaces. As the evening unfolds, the mood begins to shift. The restaurant becomes warmer, softer, and more intimate, creating the kind of setting where conversations stretch late into the night.
Lighting was designed to support this rhythm naturally, with Casambi wireless control shaping the transition behind the scenes. Rather than abrupt scene changes, lighting shifts happen through extremely slow three-minute fades. Brightness levels and colour temperature adjust so gradually that guests do not consciously notice the change, but they feel it. The room simply settles into a different mood as the evening progresses.
These scenes are linked to a time clock, allowing the lighting to adapt automatically throughout the day without any manual adjustment. The restaurant always feels balanced and appropriate to the time, while keeping operation simple for the team.
This approach was never about lighting as a separate layer of technology. The lighting and control system were designed as part of one complete experience, working with the architecture rather than competing with it. Warm, controlled illumination brings out the depth of the reclaimed stone, softens the scale of the double-height interiors, and gives each table a quiet sense of intimacy.
Casambi also gives the team flexibility when needed. Scenes can be adjusted instantly for private dining, special events, or changes in service flow, all through a simple wireless interface without visible control points interrupting the atmosphere.
At Quilombo, lighting is part of the rhythm of the restaurant itself. With Casambi working quietly in the background, the space moves naturally from the energy of daytime dining into the low-lit warmth of evening service, creating a mood that feels effortless and deeply connected to the experience around the table.
