Baden-Württemberg House – Expo 2020 Dubai

Almost a year later than originally planned, the World Expo in Dubai (Expo 2020) officially opened on Friday, 01st October 2021, with the three Expo themes of opportunities, mobility, and sustainability. Featured at the Expo 2020, the German pavilion, Baden-Württemberg House, welcomes visitors to explore and discover the region with more than 40 innovation projects and a variety of cultural performances. It has been given the theme of “Feel the Spirit of Innovation,” and the lighting system for the pavilion, which features Casambi wireless lighting control, perfectly complements the message.

Lighting management has been planned, developed, and implemented in collaboration between Casambi, lighting solutions company, omoa GmbH/Balingen Germany, the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering and Organization, and commissioning partner Shreyon Technologies, UAE. Carl-Heinz Böhm, omoa lighting expert responsible for the Baden-Württemberg House lighting design, says, “It was a particular challenge to set up a holistic lighting concept for the Baden-Württemberg House within a very short time. Qualitative luminaires had to be found that could withstand the high outdoor temperatures and at the same time be flexibly controllable.”

The basic lighting was provided by temperature-resistant and attractive RX-T continuous row luminaires. In addition, the screen area near the pavilion entrance has special highlights with color controllable omoa Floor Spotlights Multicolor and step lighting with omoa Flex Stripes.

In the Cloud (a metal construction suspended from the ceiling in the interior), 40 integrated omoa Light Channels Flex Multicolor ensure an optimal lighting mood at all times. On the terrace (in addition to the basic lighting) omoa Object Spotlights Flex are used. All luminaires can be individually controlled via Casambi wireless lighting controls. Casambi was selected due to the ease of controlling both the more traditional luminaires, such as spotlights and trunking systems, and LED strips (which typically need special modules in between).

Böhm concludes, “Thanks to our innovative lighting concept, the lighting in the Baden-Württemberg House can be used flexibly – whether for normal exhibition operations or special events.”
