Founded in 1989, Camper’s Corner is a well-established outdoor retail destination in Singapore that combines retail, café, and community spaces within its 800 sqm Boon Siew Building store, creating a welcoming environment inspired by the owner’s vision of hospitality and shared adventure. Thoughtful layered lighting design enhances the customer journey by highlighting merchandise, defining different retail zones, and creating a warm, comfortable atmosphere that transitions from bright retail areas to a softer café and hangout space. Using ERCO Casambi-enabled wireless lighting controls, the store remains flexible and adaptable, allowing easy scene adjustments and transforming parts of the space into event areas for talks, gatherings, and brand activations.

Camper’s Corner, established in 1989, is one of Singapore’s most trusted destinations for outdoor gear, serving everyone from weekend hikers to serious adventure travellers. Located within an 800 sqm space at Boon Siew Building, the store brings together retail, café, and community under one roof, creating a place where customers can explore products and share experiences around outdoor living.

The concept for the space was developed closely with the owner, who has years of retail experience and a very clear vision for how the store should feel. More than just a shop, he wanted it to feel welcoming and familiar, like inviting customers into his own home for conversation, discovery, and shared passion for adventure.

Lighting plays a key role in shaping this journey. A layered retail lighting approach enhances comfort, clarity, and brand identity across the space. The wide range of outdoor products is presented with sleek commercial lighting that highlights quality, texture, and detail while reinforcing an international retail feel.

The entrance is intentionally bright and open, drawing natural daylight into the space during the day. Deeper inside, lighting becomes more focused and layered, guiding customers through different product zones. ERCO Casambi-enabled spotlights are used to highlight apparel collections and technical gear, ensuring strong visibility and accurate colour rendering across all merchandise.

Each zone is carefully considered. The cashier counter features a bright illuminated brand wall that anchors the space visually, while the opposite side is evenly lit to showcase hiking footwear displayed on open wooden shelving. Accent and decorative lighting help shape the retail environment into an engaging and exploratory journey, while ambient lighting maintains a clean, refined sense of comfort throughout.

At the back of the store, the atmosphere shifts into a more relaxed café and hangout area. Here, lighting is softer and more intimate, creating a comfortable environment for customers to sit, unwind, and share experiences over coffee or drinks after exploring the store.

Casambi wireless control was selected to bring flexibility to a challenging existing building. As the space is located within an older structure, extensive rewiring or ceiling modifications were not practical. Casambi allows the entire lighting system to be controlled wirelessly, making it easy to adjust scenes, dim levels, and reconfigure zones without physical changes to the infrastructure.

The system also supports the store’s multi-use nature. The central area between the cashier counter and footwear display can be transformed into an event space, with lighting scenes that dim or shift to suit talks, gatherings, or brand activations.

Camper’s Corner shows how thoughtful lighting and simple wireless control can enhance both retail and community space. With Casambi, the store remains flexible, welcoming, and easy to adapt, supporting both product storytelling and the people who gather there.
