First Sentier Investors’ Sydney workplace was designed around transparency, empathy, and sustainability, with the goal of creating a calm, human-centred office aligned with Green Star and WELL Gold ambitions. Nature-inspired design elements and layered lighting help shape an open, flowing environment that supports both focused work and collaboration across two levels. Casambi wireless control enables flexible zoning, daylight-responsive adjustments, and simple day-to-day operation, ensuring the lighting remains efficient, intuitive, and quietly supportive of the workspace experience.

First Sentier Investors’ workplace in Sydney was guided by a clear set of values: transparency, consistency, and empathy. Alongside the ambition to achieve 6 Star Green Star and WELL Gold certification, these principles shaped a workplace designed to feel calm, open, and human, rather than purely corporate.

The design concept draws on nature as a guiding influence, using light, materiality, and layering to create a sense of softness and flow throughout the office. Rather than a traditional corporate environment, the result is a workplace that feels open, grounded, and easy to move through, supporting both focus and collaboration across two levels.

Lighting played a key role in achieving this outcome. Bettina Easton of Light4 Australia led the lighting strategy with a focus on adaptability, comfort, and simplicity. The system needed to respond to changing daylight conditions, support presence-based control, and remain intuitive for everyday use across a busy office environment.

Casambi wireless control was selected to bring all of these requirements together. Its flexibility allowed seamless grouping and zoning across both floors, enabling lighting scenes to be adjusted easily as teams move through different modes of work during the day. Daylight harvesting and presence-based adjustments help maintain comfortable light levels while supporting energy efficiency and sustainability goals.

The integration of Casambi with LED Luks linear extrusion luminaires also streamlined installation and commissioning. With control modules integrated directly at the factory level, the system was easier to deploy on site and faster for the installation team to implement, reducing complexity across the project.

Sustainability was not treated as a separate layer, but built into how the lighting behaves every day. By using only what is needed, when it is needed, the system supports both environmental targets and occupant comfort in a very practical way.

In the end, the lighting quietly supports the way people work. With Casambi operating in the background, the space feels balanced, responsive, and easy to live in, allowing the design intent to be felt rather than noticed.
