Vegi Resort

Nestled in the heart of Tuscany, between Florence and Siena, a historic agricultural estate is undergoing a remarkable transformation. The Vegi Resort, part of the centuries-old Fattoria di Vegi, is being reimagined as a boutique destination that blends understated luxury with deep-rooted Tuscan heritage. Surrounded by vineyards, olive groves, and cypress trees, the estate is celebrated for its Chianti Classico wines and timeless scenery.

Currently in development, the resort will ultimately consist of eight buildings, with the main building, one secondary structure, and a garden already completed and open to guests. The entire project is expected to be finalised within the next 12 to 18 months, with 27 rooms, a panoramic pool, event spaces, and curated wine and culinary experiences on the horizon.

Lighting design and control for the project is led by ZR Light, an architectural lighting studio known for its refined, sensory approach. With a focus on form, materiality, and atmosphere, ZR Light was tasked with designing and implementing a flexible, scalable lighting system across both indoor and outdoor areas of the resort.

Interior Lighting

In the completed buildings, 24V track-mounted spotlights with integrated Casambi wireless control have been installed throughout. This solution enables flexible zone control, dimming, and custom lighting scenes tailored to each space. All settings can be managed effortlessly through the Casambi app.

Outdoor Lighting and Control

Exterior luminaires are controlled via the Salvador Series 1000 and Series 2000 controllers from Casambi’s ecosystem, enabling DALI integration within the Casambi wireless mesh network. Each Salvador unit manages up to 64 DALI addresses, ensuring robust control over garden and façade lighting. The Salvador 2000 model includes a built-in 130 mA DALI bus power supply, making it an efficient plug-and-play solution without requiring additional hardware.

A Casambi Gateway will be installed soon, providing remote access and cloud-based control of the lighting system.

Scene Management and Smart Control

All luminaires, whether Casambi-native or DALI-controlled, are grouped and managed through the Casambi app, enabling ZR Light and resort staff to configure lighting scenarios that enhance the architecture and guest experience. From ambient lighting in tasting rooms to gentle path lighting in the gardens, every fixture can be programmed, scheduled, and adjusted in real time.

Key Technologies Used

  • 24V track-mounted spotlights with integrated Casambi control (interior)
  • Casambi Salvador Series 1000 and 2000 DALI controllers (exterior)
  • Casambi Gateway for remote/cloud control
  • Casambi App for grouping, scene setting, and scheduling

A Resort Guided by Light

ZR Light’s concept brings a sense of quiet elegance to the estate, enhancing rather than overwhelming the architecture. Casambi’s wireless lighting control system, combined with Salvador’s powerful DALI integration, offers a future-proof, scalable solution that adapts as the resort continues to evolve.
